Warsaw Mountain Madness @ Truman Lake Oct4th

The Midwest Fat Tire Series came to a close with the above race. Team Seagal's Cock Punchor and I drove west on I-70 for a couple of hours and then south past Sedalia to scenic Truman Lake. Fun course and bbq with all the fixins after. Ol' Puncher had no competition in the single-speed class and so he like won it and the point series itself. *Sniff* I'm so proud of him.

For some reason after copious amounts of Pabst, Punchor thought it would be a good idea to strip down to his boxers. Parents were caught unaware and children were scarred. Luckily, counselors were brought in.

Blogging, it's more a chore than a pleasure. Jaded? A little. After more than a month between posts I give you a more than a month old event. It was an EVENT. Now it's a fleeting memory, but is was lotso fun!

Grab yer six packs and 12vers and don't forget yer 40's it's The 1st Annual Midwest Singlespeed Wrestling Championship! Only a short month ago this beer for play event took Jeff City by storm. Krush, Judge Dread and Fast C and I took the wagon family truckster down to the shindig were we saddled up for some two wheeled damage on the wooded windy shores of Binder Lake home to some tight minty fresh singletrack. (This post does not contain any actual race photos, busy racing)

Afterwards we were treated to a barbeque and a wrassling match featuring promoter extraordinaire Nik.

Goofing off till The 10th Annual Rhett's Run

It was time once again for one of my favorite racing events, Rhett's Run. It crept up on me during a period of goofing around a.k.a. summertime family stuff. Camping, Fishing, Floating, outdoor home improvements. Head's Helpful Hint #1: You really don't need 8 tons of black dirt.

I didn't take any photos of the race. It rained. Wow, there's a shocker. A few of the rolling mass that usually fair well at these things had a day. Slick course meant slower lap times for me and the fellas. Krush, Fast Chad and I were all 5+ minutes slower this year. Disappointment. I have to say that should be expected when there are riders who train very hard and us. The course (by the time we began) was a little slick and still somewhat wet. Last years course was in a little bit better shape and we were able to get in 4 laps. Not this year for any of the dudes.

For the very first time in 10+ seasons of racing I was a little disappointed with the lack of sportsmanship, in general and from one team in particular, relax guys this ain't The Nationals. I had a beer. Still disappointed. After Race Coldies came flying in from all directions. Thanks Team Seagal -for a few ice cold Pabst- and Red Wheel after I ran out you guys were there for me. Hung out and shot the shit for a few hours (met the good folks at Team Trail Monster) whilst I waited for my chance at Swag and others waited for Glory. Didn't win, usually do. No matter, suds were flowing. Then off to Krush's where I enjoyed another Sierra Nevada Pale Ale while sitting on his front porch then off to a Fast Chad - Head family BBQ. FC can chef it up on the grill!

The Burr Oak 5/7

I enjoy riding under this tree. It's the 2nd largest Burr Oak in America (largest is in Kentucky) and it's over 350 years old. It grows in McBane, Mo about 20 miles from my home. It doesn't look like much when you see it across a field but the closer you get...

People are usually hanging out underneath it. Smoking the ganj, quaffing brews, taking photos or just giving it a hug. Folks get married too

Chicago Brew & Bike Mission 4/18-4/19

On Saturday April 18th Krush and myself took a road trip up to the Windy City to pick up a couple of bikes he won on E-bay and one he bought thru a Bike Forum. The second part of our journey included trips to a couple of liquor stores to acquire excellent micro-brews not found here in BoCoMo.

We left my house at 5:30 pm and arrived at the La Quinta Inn in Bloomington/Normal at 9:15. Krush jotted down the address of a local brew pub on his itinerary/directions. He punched it into the GPS ( a real godsend on this trip) and it was only 5-6 miles away. Didn't know the name only it's location. After the GPS gave us some real back-asswards directions we found that it didn't exist. Hey, Beer Advocate I updated yer info! So I gave Mrs. Head a call and she punched up B.A. on the P.C. and gave us the info on this place. Krush punched that into the GPS and due to all of the construction and re-routes we couldn't find that sucker either but at least it existed. Meanwhile, Krush is punchy and irritated after all the driving and informs me that he HATES Bloomington and/or Normal.

So we hop on over to a Kroger buy a sixer of S.N. Pale Ale and head back to our hotel. On the way we stop by a Steak n Shake drive-thru get some burgers and fries that get inhaled w/ the coldies as we watch SNL and finally nod off.

Everyone that we picked up bikes from couldn't have been nicer. First stop was on the north side of town for a balloon tire bike from nice Bob. Before we arrived at his house I guessed he'd be bald or balding. Dead Wrong! That guy had hair like Blagovich. Amazing! Next stop Midtown(?) where we picked up an excellent Danish made Cargo Bike from nice Suzy and Josh.

Our final stop was on the Southside where we picked up this sweet pre-war track bike from Police Sergeant Al who was probably the nicest of the bunch. Krush and I talked bikes with him for a while. When it was time to go I mentioned that we were going micro-brew hunting. Al's face lit up and he proclaimed his love for all things beer. He then disappeared around the corner and came back with a sampler 12 pack from New Glarus out of Wisconsin which he gave us. Great guy, that Al!

I bought an 8-pack of Little Kings cuz my Dad has mentioned them to me about a dozen times in the past. 7 ounces of cream ale delight in each bottle. Krush and I stocked up on Three Floyds, Victory, Two Brothers, Dark Horse and a few others. Drank about 5 of the cream ales passengering on the way back to BoCoMo and nodded off a little bit so I grabbed a Sparks thinking that it would give me a much needed jolt. I found out that it doesn't have caffeine or taurine in it anymore thanks to these do-gooders ! I was told by one of my distributor cronies that they're going after Red Bull next!

Ate at a small Mexican joint in Vandalia, Mo where we quaffed Negro Modelos while enjoying enchiladas and pork chili verde. Dos Primos Does it better! Back in Bocomo by 8pm Sunday. I forgot to mention that it rained the entire road trip so it sure beat staying at home and not riding.

It's crisp and clean with just the right amount of malt which makes a refreshing brew that kicks the king of beers ass in. A little ho-hum, but hey, it's a lager. Perfect after a long ride, mowing that lawn or getting polluted with friends. An excellent session beer.

Coopers Landing Crawl Pt. Deux 4/11/09

Didja ever start your morning hopped up on good Colombian coffee only to become agitated by all the caffeine you consumed? Only to nitpick and criticize, ready and mounted to go agro with any poor sap that crossed yer path? Well, that's the way Ol' Head felt Saturday morning. I called Krush and he was as torqued as myself. Told him to get his shizzle in one sock and join myself and Fast Chad (who is almost always jubilant) on a gravel road excursion down to our favorite getaway Coopers Landing. It took two calls and he finally capitulated. Nothing but a good hammerin' down to Coops to cure what ails ya!

Fast Chad enjoying a gold nugget on the muddy banks. Did I mention that he whipped up a batch of awesome chocolate chip cookies that we munched on prior to our sojourn, high marks F.C.!

Krusher! You can't see the other bicycling folks, but the Krush is holding court and probably thinking about what the hell he has to do at the shop on Monday. He is relaxing, swear (you see that goldie, only a dollar at Coops).

F.C. had to bolt early so Krush and I drank one for him and then purchased a couple road sodies to go. Took the Katy up to Hindman Junction were we quenched our thirst, road on to Coats and then to Gillespie and neighborhooded our way home. Sat on Krush's brick patio and had an excellent Victory Pale Ale as he enjoyed a Three Floyd's whilst enjoying the company of Mrs. Krush, also a member of the rolling mass. Good times.

The Pabst Coopers Landing Night-Crawl

This past Friday night me & the boys: Fast Chad, "The Krusher" and Judge Dread rode down to Coopers Landing for some Pabst/Stag and yummy Thai Food. FC brought a few PBR tall boys and the K-man carried a few road sodees for quenching that pedalling thirst!

Big Props go out to the Judge. He singlespeeded the whole way to Coopers Landing and back...and lived to wrench another day. A big thanks to Fast Chad and Krush for helping a brother out who left his coin back at the ranch. If yer ever at Coops I highly recommend the mango sticky rice. It's deelish.

Rim Wrecker: Council Bluff Lake 3/29/09

No way is it gonna be like last year with torrential rain, before, during and after the race. No way. It's gonna be a sunny day! Well, it did get sunny and then it got melty. At least no one ended up looking like this guy ! I was wet 10 seconds from the starting gun all the way to the finish. It was a good time, seriously.

Is this a bike race or are we going skiing? Taken about a mile or so from the lake. Dude was driving that box all over the road.
